Frequently Asked Questions — Bespoke Mapping
What does “bespoke mapping” mean?
A customised map or dataset tailored to your brief — area of interest, scale, format, file type, styling and labelling.
Examples include postcode-centred maps, radius/isochrone views, event route maps, and site-specific wall prints.
What styles or purposes can you create?
- Radius / drive-time or walk-time maps
- Street / postcode sector maps
- Event & route maps (you can provide GPX)
- Walking/outdoor activity maps
- Custom branding, colours, titles and symbology
Which file formats can I request?
Common outputs include PDF, JPG, TIFF (easy to print anywhere).
On request we can also supply CAD/GIS-ready files (e.g., DWG/DXF, SHP, GPKG, GeoTIFF) where the brief requires.
How quickly can a bespoke map be delivered?
Turnaround depends on scope and styling. Small, standard briefs are often completed quickly; larger areas, special cartography
or complex licensing can take longer. We’ll confirm timelines when you share your requirements.
Do I need to supply the exact area, or can you map a new route?
Either works. Provide a postcode, coordinates, a boundary file, or a GPX route — or simply describe the area and we’ll source it.
The service is designed for new areas and custom-style requests.
What scales and sizes are available?
Most scales are possible — from very detailed (e.g., 1:100 / 1:200) through 1:1,250 / 1:2,500, up to regional cartography (e.g., 1:10k / 1:50k).
Physical sizes can match your printer’s requirements (A-sizes) or custom wall dimensions.
Can you produce high-quality wall maps for commercial spaces?
Yes — we can supply a print-ready PDF (and, if needed, high-resolution TIFF) optimised for large-format print.
Perfect for hospitality, offices, retail or branded displays.
What information should I provide for a quote?
- Area/location (postcode, coordinates, boundary, or GPX)
- Purpose & usage (e.g., wall print, event map, submission)
- Scale / physical size and preferred format (PDF, JPG, TIFF, or CAD/GIS)
- Styling notes (colours, labels, logos/branding)
- Any licence/usage requirements (e.g., public distribution)
Unsure? Tell us the goal and audience — we’ll recommend scale, format and style.
Are there limitations or extra costs?
Additional costs may apply for very large coverage, complex styling, specialist formats, or usage that needs extended licensing.
We’ll outline options and pricing transparently before work begins.
Can I use a bespoke map for public or commercial distribution?
Potentially yes — but your intended use must be covered by the underlying map licence (e.g., Ordnance Survey terms).
Please state if you need public or commercial use so we can apply the correct licence.
What quality can I expect?
Professionally produced mapping using official licensed data, supplied to your requested spec (resolution/size/format).
If you have particular print or colour standards, let us know up front so we can match them.
How do GPX routes work?
Send your GPX file with any styling instructions (colour, weight, labels).
We’ll plot the route on the chosen base map and deliver a single, polished output (and, if requested, the layered source).
I’m not sure what scale or style I need — can you help?
Absolutely — we’ll recommend a practical scale, format and style based on your goals (print vs. screen, audience, legibility).
How do I place an order or get a quote?
Use the enquiry form on our Bespoke Mapping page or email
custom@ukmapcentre.com with your brief (area, format, use case, styling, timeline).
We’ll confirm options, licence fit and pricing before production.
